You guys... this thread is full of pics :) I am struggling getting my Link ECU to talk to a tablet so I can track things like engine temp - don't want to run it withough some feedback from the engine. I'll try to get some focus on it in the coming weeks and actually get it into its natural habitat for some pics..

@Devils Paw 80 I haven't started on the Unimog yet, it's a 404 with the original M180 motor, I found an M130 which will almost double the HP from 80 to 156 and preserve the gearbox. Hope to spend some time on that motor this winter and get it in by spring. I also have a set of 44's for it and if it can turn those, with build a camper for it as well. For now though, it sits waiting for me to get to the leaky seals on the gear box, a blown brake cylinder and the swap.

@BoomerUZ yes, baud rate is correct. The goal is to be able to use a small tablet and an app like "RealDash"; right now the ecu talks to the computer no problem, but when put through the (data) usb to the tablet, nothing. I now have a CAN-USB adapter that I will try and use as an interface to get the two to talk to each other and then go from there.

What a boring picture right? But wait, there is significance here. That is my pig, in a downtown parking lot. Pushed by my soon to be daughter-in-law borrowing my truck for a 10 day trip I finally did the last few things to put her on the road and drove her to work today... six plus years after starting on the project.

I am still not happy with the brakes - considering all disc and the 80 series booster, they should be better notwithstanding the 35s - I am going to try a wilwood brake proportioning valve next - and I have a bunch of wiring to tidy up and, and , and - but it is now drivable. After a bit more snow comes off the mountains I will give her an off road shakedown, but for now: Pig, in a parking lot :)

Congrats @YukonCruisers. I just knew you were going to say, “6 years of hard work and they still won’t let me park my pig in the parking lot”.

So good!
Congratulations!!!

In the fun while it lasted file, I need help diagnosing an issue. Truck was pretty noisy when backing off the gas, creating a bit of a rattle sound - thought at first i had forgot to put fluid in something but check all that and everything topped up and no shavings anywhere. Without a chance to test it over the weekend, I drove it to work again today, still noisy - but when I got to work and tried to put it in reverse, nothing, tried first, nothing. I was able to guide it to a safe spot with very limited engagement on a flat and I could heat the clutch sliding. Nothing was dripping (significantly :))

For reference, this thing has the 1UZ, ebay bell housing, hydraulic TOB, r150f trans, blackbox, dana 300 T case - three stick (front, rear, doubler), hj61 axles.

I am hoping maybe I had a hydraulic fluid leak or something and the plate isn't engaging. Lack of engagement may be a different issue than the noise.

(EDIT: it may be that the dana has slipped out of gear, those twin sticks are fussy and I may have inadvertantly locked the interlock pills that prevent foward into high while rear is in low - will update after lunch. EDIT AGAIN: Looks like the twin sticks have internally locked me out, BB shifts fine, but it seems no amount of fiddling (in work cloths) will release it - getting a tow truck ride home and will adjust shifters tonight). And one final note, apparently this set up tends to encourage the dana 300 to walk out the gears under load and eventually pop out of gear when its not - i suspect this is my secondary noise that i have been getting - gears walking themselves out. There are detent springs one can install to limit/stop this - accessing the case may be a bit of a challenge though - sigh)
