Any known or suspected issues with Land Cruisers built from say, mid to late 2020 to the end of the series production cycle?

I was in the market for a 200 series late 2019, early 2020, but then.. you know. I'm back in the market and was wondering if I should avoid a certain build range?

My understanding is that in general, Toyota keeps the LC builds (quality control) pretty tight, but outside of the LC and Toyota I typically avoid any vehicle built anywhere from about mid 2020 all the way through MY22(ish) due to the supply chain/parts issues that virtually all of the automotive industry dealt with in some capacity.

I know that the LC is a fairly low volume vehicle, so the 'austerity' issues may not have impacted the 200 series much if at all. Just curious if anyone has an experience with MY2020-21 vs pre MY2020 200 series.

Apologies if this has been asked before..

Cheers,

Ours is a 2021 and I understand your concerns about post lockdown craziness regarding manufacturing. I do believe your concerns are warranted but I can’t say that I know of anything to be worried about when considering a Land Cruiser built during your given time frame. My experience is completely anecdotal but we have had 26,000 trouble free miles with ours. Our case may not be a good example as we had ours modified from the get go but it’s been the best vehicle we’ve ever owned.

Any vehicle can have issues and this is what warranties are for, if you are worried about the potential for issues then look into buying some piece of mind in the form of an extended warranty.

I’ll add that if you were talking about buying from a manufacturer who’s known for quality issues then we’d be having a different conversation.

Good luck in your search and may you find yourself a wonderful Cruiser.

Nothing unusual reported on this forum.

The main thing to watch out for is frame rust. Prices for late model Land Cruisers, particularly Heritage Editions, are very high in my opinion. You might get a better deal on a 2020-2021 LX 570.

X2. Post lockdown issues were really about parts availability. The Land Cruiser is only a low volume vehicle here in the USA. Middle East ,Australia and South America they are everywhere.

~15k miles on our 2020, not a single hiccup.

I know that’s ridiculously low miles, but like others on this forum, this is a car/platform I would trust my life to, literally.

At any given time it’s ready to be driven cross country in any weather, in any conditions, with essentially any combination of people and cargo. And I am confident it will accomplish this with comfort and ease.

Oct 2020 build 2021MY Base LC200 here, with low 34.5 miles on it and about 3k tow of a 7000lbs travel trailer. Been trouble free except for a fogged headlamp unit which was replaced under warranty. An infant issue so it seems and good I caught it.

The 2020 and 2021MY’s have all the final updates including the radiator and upgraded front differential

Overall best vehicle I have owned sofar and plan to keep for 25+ years

On COVID build impact in 2020 and 2021, I expect the Japanese factory and supply chain of companies in Japan for the 200 series to have been dutifully focused on quality and making timely delivery. For the workers If anything else with the aim to stay in a job.

In fact the company I work for delivered better work and projects in 2020 and 2021 as we were less distracted by management initiatives and we were allowed to focus on the basics. Unfortunately we are big time back to those again in 2024 shouting out how great we are on intra company websites…

45,500 miles on my 2021 HE. No problems. Will need new brakes soon. 4mm left all around. Mine has seen extensive off-roading and I live in the mountains, so harsh winters.

This more or less sums up both my expectation and hopes. Low volume and the at least general community consensus that the LC in particular is above average on quality. Even for a Toyota.

Cheers,
