I have brought up my truck from Louisiana to New Hampshire where it is going to see its first winter ever. I want to do my best to protect it, I'm thinking road salt will be one of the biggest problems. Should I get flaps to keep it off the body? Does anyone already make some? I don't really want big gawdy ones, just enough to do the job.

Mine has em, too.
I've seen stock-looking 60/2 with and without them.
Check the usual aftermarket suppliers and talk to C-Dan.

Cool cruisers of Texas sells the originals for $70 a piece. Ouch! If your not as concerned about being OEM or looking as good then a cheap universal set could prolly be made to work.

I've got a set of used ones from my resto project that are in decent condition and looking for a new home. PM me and I'll send you details....

Welcome to New England, :D

I had the OEM flaps too, but removed them becaus they did nothing to keep rust from attaching itself to the body of my 60. Not to mention that rocks love to get wedged between the mud flap and the tire.

I might design a removable flap one of these days. A  job.

 Since you are in NH, have a look at www.yankeetoys.org . Lots of good info and local Toyota resources. Plus we will be having a trail run in September, come by and meet some other cruiser folks, have some BBQ and  ...

I'd recommend a thick coat of body liner on the underside of your cruiser. That will do more than a set of flaps ever will.

Rhino, Line-x, whatever...

I had some flaps on my cruiser. I think that the flaps made my body rust more than anything. I took them off one day and found rust under where the flaps hook onto the body. I am with DOC I would get the bottom of it lined. That will do more than anything.

Spring Cleaning ...

Something I do for my vehicles that I run in the winter is a very good "spring cleaning". Clean the wheel "dog legs" and spring/frame attachment points with brushes and power washing. Follow up by spraying the high salt areas with a product called "Salt-X". Follow insturcitons. It is a marine product found at boating stores to remove salt ... chemically. It's aimed at boat owners, jet ski folks, and fishermen(people) to remove salt from equipment etc.

Cheers,
Cahil

P.S. Winter use ? Keep the vehicle outside in a steady temperature enivironment. The only thing heated garages do is ensure there's nothing metal left of your vehicle come spring.
