Hey Mud - Haven't been on Mud for decades like some of you experts, but have GREATLY benefitted from the knowledge, access to buyers/sellers via the classifieds (bought/sold 100, 80, wheels, tires, etc.) over the last 5-6 years - love this community on here!
I've got an active post on the WTB wheels/tires section looking for a single RW. Some random number reached out claiming he had exactly what I needed, sent pics (they looked a little fishy, nothing super out of the norm though), and had a great price (of course). What I haven't experienced before was they claimed to be another member on Mud who had one (someone with a pretty mature profile...I've messaged him directly to let him know). They refused to send a message via Mud, I scoped the profile out, locations mismatched, more pics of single wheel resulted in random pics of different wheels, etc.
My spidey senses thought it was sketch from the get-go, but not sure everyone would have thrown up the flag. I had a few mins and dug up username this morning and realized no way it was the Mud member messaging. Foolishness for me to post my cell and will be removing from the ad/not doing it in the future - shame as it's very quick/easy for comms when buying/selling stuff.
Suggest working directly through Mud via messaging and NEVER sending money without verification of who is on the other end. This is all of course common sense with the current online environment we live in, but just a refresher for folks when they sometimes get too casual with the more routine purchases.
Buyer/sellers be cautious and verify before sending any funds, no matter how much $$$ it is. Hope this helps someone avoid problems!!!
