I have a couple desires to modify my bed. Firstly I want to put some real tie-downs in the front passenger/driver corners, and second I'm thinking of different ways to mount one or two Hi-Lifts in the bed.

From what I understand the majority of the bed is plastic, so where can I find metal for a solid point to secure things?

One idea I had for my 60'' Hi-Lift is mounting it across the bed up near the cab, horizontally. Where are there solid points along the top edge? [I'm also considering shortening my jack... 60'' might be a bit excessive. It will be nice though if I have to use it with my truck suspended over a desert ditch, I think...]

So where are there some solid spots I could drill and bolt into?

For solid mount points, the only option is the 4 torx head bolts on the bottom of the bed where it mounts to the frame. Other than that, you would need to reinforce a bed mount with some backing plate to strengthen it.

For the high lift, I used the bed rails and created two support brackets to attach the high lift to. The only problem with mounting it at the cab end is if you are completely loaded with gear and need to gain access to it. I ended up starting with it mounted to the cab end, but then moved it to the side rail.for easier access.
