Our plans right now are to meet at the Avi Casino near Needles on Thursday night (April 19th) and leave in the morning on the trail that starts about a mile away. Camp Friday and Saturday night at campsites to be determined (Mid Hills, Camp Phallus?) See as many sites as possible and have the ability to stay longer or bail out at any time. Experience has taught me to bring a minimum of 5 gallons of fuel and start with a full tank in my Fj60 (2f) for the 140 + miles before getting to gas stations near Calico. The trail has no real obstacles but higher clearance is a plus.

So far, we have JD and his wife Debbie in their FJ Cruiser, Barney in his FJZ80, and myself and Tracy in the 60. We have had many more people in past years and welcome anyone who likes the outdoors and Toyotas (yet we are open to all flavors of 4x4s) to join us.

I plan on attending as well. It looks like my dad and friend Richard will be coming along. Did anyone make reservations yet at the avi

Also would like to do a couple geocaches if time permits. Still need to do a few things to the 80.

reservation

Carl, I'm glad to hear you can come along. Geo cache hunting is fine. We plan to explore on this trip and not just blast down the road. I just made a reservation at Avi, standard rooms are $30.24 with tax.

Made My reservation for the AVI

I made my reservation for Thursday at the AVI. They had a movie and Breakfast Buffet Deal with the room for 2 for $50. I plan to head out in the late morning, stop along the way for lunch and get there by about 3:00.

Sorry I missed the last meeting, any other plans for the trip and what time is everyone heading out to Laughlin and is anyone planning to bring a BBQ and or have camp fires?

Bring some firewood

I'm not sure when I'll be leaving on Thursday. I hope to get out of here around noon to beat the traffic through Riverside and San Bernardino. We did not make plans to get together until Friday morning at 9:00 at breakfast.

Fires are allowed in the park in existing fire rings, so bring some firewood if you want to have a fire. No collecting is allowed out there. I might bring a small BBQ if it fits. I have never packed the 80 for a multi-day trip, so not sure how much I can fit into it.

Space in the 80

If it is just you going it should not be a problem to pack the 80 for this trip. I managed 3 people and gear for 1.5 weeks to Moab. However did not bring gas and alot of water.

I will try to bring wood, but it depends on if I can rig up a roof rack and / or reciever carrier for the trip. I do not want to carry a gas can and wood inside the 80 if at all possible. I called Marc from the forwarded email from beachntoys about the roof he is selling and left a message. So hopefully I can rig it to work this weekend.

I'll bring some fire wood as well. I'll also try to bring my little BBQ.

Reservations at Avi filling up

I just heard from Debbie Lanford that the rooms at Avi are filling up for next week. "just to let you know there are no more $29 rooms. They had a few $39 smoking rooms left. The nonsmoking rooms are $50 in the beach tower only. She said they are getting full."

So if you are planning to go, get a reservation now - Barney

I wish I could join you guys- thats always a fun trip.

Laughlin is only a few minutes up River road from AVI- still lots of cheap rooms there. Also - you may want to cross the bridge east of AVI into Arizona for gas before you leave- AZ is a lot cheaper for gas than CA or NV.
