Mojave Road - Afton Canyon Run 2/21 - 2/23

A few conversations at last night's meeting about the next run (Mojave Road) on the calendar, specifically what I think was the original date being the President's Day long weekend. As the long weekend will most likely draw crowds, I've got dates down from the agenda now as February 21 - 23. My rig will actually be pointing south that week so my first official act as club president appears to be passing the buck. Anyone with experience on (or interest in!) Mojave Road willing to lead this run? Weather looks to be continued high pressure, though still a ways out. Anyone who has done the run and has pix or tails from the trail please chime in!

Some pics from past runs. We have been starting at the Avi Casino on the river near the trail head, then head east to Midlands or New York Mtns to camp. From there go to Afton Canyon or Calico. My truck is apart right now for rust removal and paint so won't be going.

That is JD's. He, Barney and I have made several runs in the last four years. He has moved up near Victorville, but you will meet him on the D.V. run in March. He is a serious offroader, Toyota enthusiast, and fabricator and I have learned a lot from him. That is a roof top ARB tent on his FJ. You may see that on his own offroad trailer next month, one of several he has built.

After doing the trip east to west a couple times, I think it may be good to do west to east and spend more time in Afton canyon and end at the casino for a shower. $39 a night and included breakfat and movie for 2. Does JD even have a Toyota anymore?

Of course! He has the garage queen 80 with the smog legal v8. He wheels his new rubicon 4 door these days. Such a shame... (Hope you read this, feel the heat, and buy a 45 pickup already built... )

I am not going to be able to make this run. Since Frank is leading a trip to Coyote Canyon the same weekend, I am going to defer to him this month.

Got a class on Sat. 2/21 so can't make the Mojave Run. Wish there was a way to catch up with the Run for the Sunday-Monday parts...
