The pinion issue is a little different. I can procure a solid pinion spacer for the front from Marlin, the rear is another issue. At this point no one makes a solid pinion spacer for the rear axle in the 80 series. Anyone have a machine shop?

You are correct. I stand a decent chance the existing shims will work with no drama. My concern is the carrier bearing are prolly in really good shape but they have worn in after 192K miles and I don't want to have the truck apart on the lift and need different shims to get it in spec and not have them available. Something like that will turn a couple hundred $$ job into $1500+.
 
I have a friend who is a machinist and has a mill and a lathe at home in the garage
