It looks like I'll be heading north to MN the weekend of the 12-14th to swap gears. I will be pulling my bike trailer so I can bring Mikes F-toy chassis and an axle back. If anyone needs something to go for a ride either way let me know and we can work something out. Kris

she hasn't said yet.

spoon'n what's that? I prefer the reverse cowboy. errr...s*** wrong forum.

I talked to Wen at dinner and she said she wouldn't be sure about getting time off until she 's back to work the 8th. That being said she mentioned that if you wanted to go in her place that would be cool since it'll be up in the air until the 8th.

Do they have white fish in MN? I'm sure I can score some Walleye.

Sure, where would I find the stuff?

Jeep Jamboree??:lol::D:lol::D:lol::D:princess:

Back when I was a kid, afore most a ya born, they used to have little stands out in frunt of their homes. Maybe the smoke houses were in the frunt yards too. But you could jus stop along the road an buy em. Man they were soooo gude! I think Dads Ford still has the essence of smoked fish, or not....
The last time Dad an I went ta Minniesota was 1980. It was up by Park Rapids an farther North, the little stands seemed to be gone, prolly the health dept.?? But we skored sum in a Fish market somewhere around Brainerd.. Man they was sooo Gude......
Dad fergot bout the head of the Large Small mout Bass he put tween the camper an the bed a the pickup. That's anuther essence that's hard ta fergit....
C Ya, Don

Don I thought you were referencing lutefisk for a second there. I was going to remind you that is a controled substance in KS.

There will be a slight delay. Last minute findings put things on hold for a dew weeks. Cramer was looking over the MM and found that the rear carrier bearings for locked axles require shims to set CBPL. The MM calls out a potential of 23 shims and as luck would have it there are only 5 in the US right now. Steve ordered a couple sets for his stock but it'll take ~3 weeks to get here from Japan (must be coming slow boat from China). s*** happens and so far we have averted a potential 4pm Sunday stuck in MN situation. Thank you Steve!!!

So that being said, Mike since you're taking time off anyway let's kill Saturday doing the rip and tear on the mini-truck and clean out the garage before the real trip. I'll even let you sleep in a little.

If you guys need help, give me a call, I'm an excellent supervisor. I'll be coming in on Sun also to meet with Mike & Bruce about slider mount options. I also have some stock tacoma leaves if you need them for your project, (54" eye to eye-free including shipping).

Sorry to hear about the delay.

The more the merrier. The plan is to strip the bed and cab off the '79, cut it up and get it out of the garage. I need to pull the motor/tranny/xfer, save the hood, VIN tag, rear axle and springs (maybe).

I'll take the 54" springs off your hands

Cool, that helps me clean em out of my garage. PM'd ya with my number.

kris what gears are you puting in? CBPL? 23 shims? why not use thicker shims? I'm sure I'm missing something...

Just a forewarning the formatting of this will likely be screwed up.

No worries on missing anything, we'll keep you up to speed.

Gears = Yukon 4.88's

CBPL = carrier bearing pre-load

The shim situation is there are 23 different thicknesses (2.67mm - 3.33mm) that are used to set the CBPL (see above) and ring gear backlash unlike the adjusting nuts on all other Toy axles. They are rather large and a special order from Mr. T. There is a slim chance I could reuse the existing shims but as I mentioned Steve didn't want a Sunday 4pm situation with Mike and stuck in MN and renting a car to get home.

so only one shim is used par side....you just need the right size (i'm picking up what your laying down). I read you wrong the first time, didn't know CBPL and thought that was fancy talk for pinion depth. I guess at first I was thinking about something like how you put 4cyl gears in a v6 case buy using an a$$ load of shims behind the main pinion bearing race in the housing. anyway <hi-jack off>

There's a big chance that the same shims will work, they normally do. The gears are all machined the same size, the shims are for making up the difference in the machining in the housings.
