Mini / FJ60 axle interchangeability

I started pulling apart a mini truck axle to build up my FJ60 front. Does anyone know if the Mini birf and inner's will interchange with the FJ60 axle? I also need to locate, or need some ideas to build a HD tie rod to fit the 60 and weld my hydro-assist to.

I'm no 60 series expert, but I think that 60 axles are wider than the mini's. Don't know about the birfs.

BTW, I have a set of mini axles and birfs setting in the garage if you need me to measure anything.

Mike - on the tie rod I've heard that 1" sch 40 (80?) pipe will sleeve a OEM tie rod and provide decent reinforcing. Haven't taken the measurements myself.

this is good news.....the axel swap is under way...i can't wait to tell the supervisor...maybe he will leave me alone....we did put in new guages and a tuffy overhead console this past weekend...i am trying to keep him occupied...we will start power steering in another week or so...still aquiring parts....good luck with that axel mike!

call me.. I can walk ya thru it. Long side 60 is same as mini long side.. Tie rod taper should be same on 60 as mini and 80. Short side mini not same as 60 or 40 so it's only good to mini guys..
Birfs same mini and 60.. Tie rod taper same, Lockouts same, Brakes are interchangeable if you use vented stay vented.. Probaby best to throw solid rotor as far away as possible. All 60's and most mini's cant remember year split use pressed in lugs. Buy all new when doing that job!

tie rod I don't know.. Sorry! Just call a vendor or use the 60 one and sleeve it? that's my plan.. Or call 4x4labs and get one made but that's like $

Okay, so the long side mini and 60's interchange....
The short side don't.......
The Mini 60 & 80 TRE's all interchange.......

And I'm all kinds of confused on the tie rod and connecting rod to the steering gear.
EC get your chit together for this same swap, Chris get the stuff you need for the sliders and whatever your putting on the pink panty wagon and I'll drag my junk back up to where ever and lets get these things done before Flat Nasty.... (WRENCHING WEEKEND!!)

The Birfs are the same. Axles are diffeern't.

EC - when I swap the 60's vented brake rotors for the Mini's solids, do I need to change calipers or anything for the wider rotor?

Anyone - I've gotta pull the ARB from my '78 front axle to swap into the 60 axle. Will all the internals swap back and forth? I'm gaining a fine spline pinion, but I don't have the spider gear all that junk to go back into the '78 for Jake.

I also need a 4.11 ring and pinion cheap. SOR shows 1/78 - 1/90 should work..... I can't afford to upgarde to 4.88's or 5.29's yet but I'm think'n bout it.

Are y'all gonna run a front locker? I think the parts missing from my front diff could come out of your '68 .....

no on the front locker...that would be cool if we could use parts out of our 68 axel...we will need help making sure that we can use the parts and making sure we install them properly...not much axel experience around here...

MIKE, YOU NEED CALIPERS FOR A LAND CRUISER OR V-6 MINI. SAME THING. O O OREILLYS HAS ACCCEPTD THE NARROW MINIS FROM ME AFORE. I THINK I HAVE A L&R IN GREENWOOD COUNTY.

I DO BELEIVE THAT THEY WILL FER SHURE WANNA RUN THE SIDE GEARS FROM THE 68 CAUSE THEY WOULD BE THE CORSE SPLIND ONES. OTHER THAN THE SPINE COUNT THEY IS THE SAME DEMENTIONS.

I just checked with SOR......

The carrier and everything should be the same 58-90.
The side gears should have gone to fine spline in '68 and we should be okay there.

So I need to order vented rotors and calipers (FJ60 or V6 Mini)... Right?

YES. THE FJ60 AND MINI USE THE SAME HUB. EARLER CRUISERS, USE A DIFFERRNT, BUT SAME OFFSET, IF YA WILL, HUB. I FERGET WHICH, FER SHURE, BUT I THINK THE LADDER MODEL BOLTS THE RODER TO THE HUB AN THE OLDER HAS THE STUDS HOLDIN THE RODER TO THE HUB.
