HI everyone,
For Christmas I got a Millermatic 135. Well today I got around to setting it up. Well I hit my firat snag, for some reason the wire spool will not spin, and therefore the wire will not feed into the trigger gun. When it is plugged it, the fan goes on but it will not feed. What am I doing wrong? Any ideas?

Thanks,
Zack

doube, tripple and quadruple check the connections. Often these things look like they're in, but aren't quite. I've had a few problems and its just a matter of the set up...and I know its a tough one to hear, but the manual may have the answer ;)

Is the drive wheel moving?
Do you have it feed corectly?
Are the correct drive wheels Installed?

Do the drive wheels turn when you press the trigger? If not then you may have a problem as I'd guess the 135's are setup to run out of the box.

If your drive wheels turn:

-open the drive mechanism, pull out any wire that may have already fed, and cut it off

- take off your nozzle and tip

- make sure you have the correct drive wheels positioned (not sure the 135s have options for wire size)

- turn the tension knob while pressing on the trigger until your wire feeds steadily and put tip/nozzle back on

If it still won't feed another problem may be a little rust scale on the wire. Also, there's neat little felt rings that you can get at a welding shop that slip over the wire as it feeds into the drive wheels and a lubricating fluid to soak the felt that makes feeding smoother.

Make sure your wire feed knob is turned up. :D

If the drive wheels are turning, make sure the wire on the spool isn't bound.

My 135 needed to be repaired once because it wouldn't turn the drive wheels. It had fed quite a few hundred feet of wire at that point.

Thank you everyone! It was actually two problems. First the "trigger/gun connector" was not in properly and secondly (yeah I am dumb!!) the wire feed knob was not turned on!

Thank you Zack

Glad you got it sorted out. The wire spool is not driven. It's just along for the ride provided by the drive wheels. You need to set the tension with just enough resistance to keep the wire tight between the drum and the drive wheels.

Now go weld some stuff.

You've got the argon gas setup right? It makes all the difference for easy and clean welds.

Yes, I do have the gas set up, however for the moment I am just welding with flux core wire. I will go get a bottle of gas next week.
