Several of you guys have cut the top rail from the surround on the Military trailers, wondering why. Damage, looks, function. Thanks

I'm still sporting muh original rails :)

somebody pm'd me once...
had questions about the sealing of my lid
and how well that worked with the Sq/Rnd tube interaction.

I used a automotive 3M bulb seal secured to the lid (Sq tube)...
and the bulb portion of the seal conforms perfectly to the Rnd. rail/tube.

seals great... stays put

* my lid is sorta unique tho'
as it is a floating lid (type/design) and the seal does not rest with weight nor pressure on the rail surface.

as far as reconstruction...
I think it would depend on how badly bent the rails might be
and what the surrounding sheet metal condition was...
thus determining what effort/cost would be needed to return that to original.

Sq. tube as replacement... would be faster and easier.
...is muh guess

Mine were bent up pretty bad. There wasn't much chance of saving them, not with me anyway. Cutting those top rails off allowed me to straighten the tub a considerable amount. I also like the looks of the square tube.
