I believe we've had the Milford Cargo Barrier in our FJ62 for around 9 years now. As we're about to part with that Cruiser, I thought I would post our experiences.
We've had dogs since '85, and have to admit a Milford was not a particular concern with Kanza, our black lab (85-98). She would lay down in the back & you sometimes had to check that she was still there.
Next up were Jasper aka Whizzer, Blue Heeler/Australian Shepherd, RIP, (named for his first appearance in the house) & Jasmine, another lab. They were adoptees & had never ridden in a car. If they didn't have their noses pressed to the glass, they were pressed to our ears & lab slobber freely dispensed. Milford to the rescue!
The Milford was sourced from MAF or SOR (?), & was freshly removed from a rolled FJ60. We got a deal, but the shipping ran about half the cost. It also arrived without any packaging nor instructions, & only one of the 2 sets of mounting hardware. No distributor had any available. I was able to contact Milford & they faxed the instructions (will try to post these to this thread). I installed one side of the mount, the other was stripped out & a body shop used nutserts on that side. The lower stabilizer brackets were bolted at the spot for the rear tie-down loops, using longer bolts in the rearmost holes.
The cargo tray is a universal-fit DeeZee ToughGuy Cargo Liner. Two jumbo dog beds would fill it & the dogs were relegated to smearing the back windows (defroster still works!). From our experience, the screens in Aussie sliding windows would not have lasted.
Just imagine your dog(s) standing on pillows to watch the sights. Whizzer lacked self-control & being raised on the end of a chain attached to his doghouse, enjoyed barking at everything new & lunging at dogs in passing vehicles. He soon learned the Milford was there.
Fortunately, I don't have any tales of flying tool boxes, or dogs for that matter. As you see, the barrier is labelled as non-rated.
I probably would have put the 2nd set of mounts behind the front seats; but honestly, the farther you're away from lab slobber the better. I can't comment on the ease of switching the barrier between spots. I can say that no distributor had any mounts or barriers on hand when I checked again in 05.
There is space behind the rear seats for a Michelin road kit (jumper cables, reflectors . . .), coats & misc.
