Mig Welding Cart / Hobart 187 Project--Thanksgiving Monster...

I am waiting on some parts for my disc brake swap and decided to dig into a welding cart project.

My goals were two-fold. First I have to get it under a 38 inch shelf for storage. Minus the wheels which I still need to source, it stands 35.5 inches high. Second, I have small kids and really didn't want them pulling a tank over at some point. So I invested $12 in a plumbers clamp to hold the tank to the cart.

The deck is galvanized steel, maybe 16 gauge. (Yes, I wore a welding respirator). The bracing for the deck is actually some rails from an old garage door. I used some scrap 1 inch by 1/4 strapping for the tank deck. I had slick looking gusset which I used to cantilever the top deck. My decorative innovation is the use of a couple of old shocks for fun....that's as monster as I get.

I was really impressed with my new cut off saw as well. My brother and sister in law bought it for me this fall (xmas and b-day). It is a reconditioned hitachi.

Let me know your thoughts on the cart.

Cart looks good, and will look even better with wheels. The shocks threw me for a minute-decoration only like those huge pickups you see.

Considering the lawnmower turned into a cart and the bbq turned into a cart, I'd say yours is in the top 5% of carts posted on ih8mud!

I love my welder and don't know How I lived without it for 45 years.

Wow....top 5% makes me feel pretty good....now if only I could get the disc brakes fixed.

That looks nice. I like how you built the cylinder holder.

I think I am done....no paint.

I picked up some steel wheels and boogered them onto the bottom. It sits just perfectly under the garage shelving....right next to the parts washer which is also on casters.
