Hi so I just picked up a 2007 GX470 today and I'm gathering up a cart of first mods and GMRS is essential for me since that's what everyone uses I go out riding with. Now first off I'd like to run the power for it through a add a fuse into the interior fuse box. Question is, which fuse would be the best for that? Still learning as I go electric stuff so bear with me please lmao any info is greatly appreciated. Also what would be the best way of running the coaxial cable through the firewall? I've been seeing posts about a grommet but no pictures on where it might be. I'll look in the morning but again any info or help is greatly appreciated!

For the add a fuse, I would use the same amp fuse as the inline fuse. You will either need to cut off the pl259 connector or get an adapter to run a smaller coax cable through the boot on the firewall. I was able to run a sma cable through the firewall boot for my weboost.

Thanks for the info! I'll give it a shot and report back when everything arrives. Nice GX btw!

Don’t run power and coaxial for the antenna through the same firewall grommet. You can get really bad interference doing that.

There’s grommets on both sides, and, depending where you mount the antenna, the firewall holes might not make a ton of sense.

Well I'm considering mounting the antenna to the roof rack after I found a mount for mine. Where would you consider running the coaxial through for that mounting position? Appreciate the insight. I didn't know I could get back interference. I have my radio installed in my Tacoma the same way you just mentioned and I get clear connection to whoever I'm talking to. Still good to know though I'll try and avoid that in the future.

And also do not coil your excess coax. It should be ran out and not coiled up together. (I'm assuming this same issue for CB radio pertains the GMRS??)

I have no issue in my Tacoma with the cord being coiled up. I think that may be just a CB thing. I'm not sure thought don't quote me on that 🤣

That's good to know when I do get my radio eventually. Running coax along the floor or underneath the vehicle is a pain.

Yeah I can imagine it is lol I hate running harnesses under the floor it never fits right.
