MetalLock high build primer question

Getting ready to primer and paint the 40. The question I have is if it is absolutely necessary to block sand the primer before paint? Are there any problems with just laying color over the top? I know that if there are imperfections then block sanding will help that but this isn't a show rig. I'm using PPG single stage Urethane 416.

I'd do a quick once over to get any of the over spray off. The single stage urethane is nice, because most imperfections can be overcome with the final wet sanding.

Yooper, What grit do you use...400?

It's been too long to give good advice, but 400 would probably be fine. Others with more recent experience should chime in.
