1) Did they ever make a 4x4 Toyota Dolphin (class b motor home)?

2) If not how would you go about building such a beast?

I saw one a while back and thought it was a pretty good set-up. I'm fairly sure it was custom. Anyway it got me thinking.

Would you buy a Dolphin and a Truck, or just a Dolphin and the 4x drive components?

Retro the axles/drive train into the Dolphin?

Graft the Dolphin body onto the 4X truck?

I'm not talking about running the Rubicon, just a little extra ground clerance and traction. In my humble experience you only need to get a few miles away from the graded roads to escape most of the asshats.

Or am I just being a Tard?

Tard.

But so am I. I've been thinking about it too. There's a guy on pirate doing a SAS and 4wd conversion to a 2wd pickup. His argument is that it's cleaner since you don't have to hack off all the IFS 4wd stuff. I'm guessing the Dolphins use the 1 ton chassis from the late 80's to carry all the extra weight. So probably run a trussed 84-85 front axle, maybe truss the top run a Marlin high steer and I think it's work....

There's supposed to be a big following for these things...maybe Yahoo group?

I was looking at some pictures of the Dolphins and realized the wheel base looks a lot longer than even a LWB truck.
So you would probably have to stick with the Dolphin chassis and swap the 4X4 running gear/drive train in.
