We had an enjoyable meeting last Saturday. Many thanks to all who attended, especially those who had to make the long drive north. As intended, this meeting was a social/planning meeting, so there were few motions/votes. The major voting issue was the rousing and unanimous election of our new vice-president, Scott Huggins. I'll post on that separately.
Apart from introductions/greetings, discussion was mostly about bringing in new members, and preparations and logistics for the 2010 Ramble, which will be our main focus for the next six months.
Membership ideas:
We will have another meeting/meet n' greet in Little Rock in January, most likely at Casey's cafe. We have some new members from LR and some old folks from distant locations, who couldn't make this meeting. I hope they will be able to come then, and I hope we can attract some curious members-to-be.
There were two ideas for informal membership-boosting/partying events that I am pursuing immediately - a "drive-in" hot dog-serving event (thanks, Terry), and a trail run in the Mt Gaylor area. Stay tuned.
Ramble:
Daryl has strongly encouraged us to seek participation by other clubs whose members regularly attend the Ramble. It was agreed that this is a good idea.
Gary reported on his previous experience with donations, and suggested that letter-writing has been effective in the past. He has made available a donation request letter template, which I will be happy to distribute to anyone who wants to request a donation from local businesses.
There was discussion about insurance for the Ramble, TLCA sanctioning, raffles, and bands. These will be topics for discussion/resolution at the next meeting.
