A month after we shockingly lost our 3.5 year old Chocolate Lab, Finn, to a freak spleen tumor, we brought home this little girl...
I hadn't expected to get another pup so soon but we were all so sad, including our 13 year old Golden mix. I was researching breeders, as I wanted a specific kind of dog and from a highly reputable breeder who focused on health and temperament (not just colors) and came across Lilly Hill Kennel in Plainfield, VT via a sporting dog forum. They breed English Labs and English Setters. They place dogs all over the world, and currently have multiple high-ranked gun dogs in their kennel. Really great reputation and I happen to be looking at just the right time, as they had a litter born in late Nov. and had 2 female yellow labs as yet unspoken for.
Went up and spent a few hours with them, and was really impressed by how they did things. We chose a pup, then back up a 10 days later to pick her up.
She's bright, loving, and very smart so far. It's early days yet but she's mostly house and crate trained all ready. She's velcro'd right to you most of the time and this is good because as a self-employed person I'd like to be taking her everywhere with me in the future. We've even had 2 nights where she slept all night!
Picked up a few supplies and am planning on doing proper retriever training with her. (canvas dummy is way too big for her right now, I got the wrong size).
And our dear, departed Finn, who will be forever missed.
