So now looking at the engine bay pics on this, I see the oil filter has a relocator head mounted to the intake manifold. That’s the second time I’ve seen that. What’s the deal with that? Seems like that would be a lot of hose added to the bay there just to put the filter in a place where it would make more of a mess.

@RUSH55 I hadn't really thought about the length of hose for the power steering, I will have to look at that. And on the oil filter, I noticed that as well, and it has definitely been that way for a while. From what little reading I have done, I suspect that was done many years ago to get rid of the cartridge style filter. I am still learning, but I will get some better pictures of it later today. I do agree it is definitely going to make a mess given its angle and location.

As far as where the PS pump is mounted, there is a bracket bolted to the front of the head that may have had something still in it when the PS conversion was done that would have prompted the PS mount, but I have no idea what that bracket may have held or when it would have been removed. If anyone knows what that curved mount would have held, I am certainly interested. And if someone needs it, let me know as I am clearly not using it.

And yes. That pump could be moved to the drivers side. Georg has a bracket.

Guess I need to put "call Georg" on the to-do list.

I have to say, she has been responsible for more of my vehicle purchases then i have. She loves the community and she loves the pig. Only downside is where most guys wives are their check valves, mine usually wants to know if we need 2. :D

Sounds like you married well!!!

That curved mount is for the much needed factory air cleaner to get rid of that horrific rectangular object.

You wouldn't happen to have one in your pile of parts anywhere would you?

Plan is to try and find the source of the leak this weekend so it is driveable. I mean it is awful, ear piercing, almost like a stuck pig... :rimshot:

clean it out, pull the seats and see about getting some quotes for having them recovered. Beyond that we will have to see where it leads.

So I believe we found the culprit to my squel. Pulled all the adapters off and found what we think may have been the original carb gasket under the bottom of the stack. Flat, flat and hard as a rock. The other two were still a little pliable.

Note the discoloration, that is the side that the whistle was coming from.

So i am going to pick up some gasket material tomorrow. Also found that someone stripped out one of the holes in the middle adapter. So I also need to pick up a longer bolt to try and to make it down into the good threads left in the adapter plate.

Anyway, we also did a little filing on this washer too because it appears that it may have been keeping the base plate from seating properly.

Can anyone tell me what that bolt is for? Is it part of the original carb mount or something else?

Also, here are a couple pics of the homebrew pump bracket. The bracket bolted to the head was torched out. The actual pump bracket looks like it came off something else and was modified to bolt onto the side of the head. The hoses are crazy long and I do think I will check on that bracket from Georg to move it to the drivers side.

And does anyone know if these grommets are available. Lots of holes in the firewall that need plugging off.

And is there a good source for door seals and other rubber parts?

Hide your wallet if your saying rubber parts near a pig...just sayin’

Uh oh... Unfortunately all the seals are shot and even if it is one door per year, i need to get them done.

I use sheets of Remflex for the carb gaskets. I have a .35 caliber brass that punches the holes perfectly.

Intake bolt. It’s gotta stay. Grind around it.

PS pump. If it ain’t broke.....

Grommets. Some. I just use generic plugs. Gorilla tape. Foam. Whatever. Just fill em up.

@nvrlose54 says FJ62 door gaskets fit on a FJ55.

I used ones from www.slocruisers.com

Looks like slocruisers is out of most everything currently. Will shoot him an email to see about getting some details. Thanks for the PM as well. Will start reading and taking notes.

Good score Matthew.
I can't ever talk MH into more trucks.:cautious:
There is a great deal here on a couple of '64 Ford pickups. She just glares at me.

@Hugh Heifer i read your reaponse to Erin and her exact words were "wait, what years?" I'm not sure I can afford her habit for much longer....
