May/June OBX article

Although I'm new to TLCA, I've had the good fortune of enjoying a friend's hand-me-down issues. The May/June article "Plan B" by Jay Capers was great. My then 5 yr old son and 70 yr old dad cruised OBX last summer in my 03 Tacoma. As soon as my youngest is ready, he and my wife will be loaded up in the GX for a similar trip.

I'd be interested in learning about what mods the author had completed on his Taco if anyone knows him. . .

I cruised the OBX beaches all the way up through the 4WD beach area in Corolla back in '94 in my stock 4Runner. It was brand new & I had only put "real" tires on it, my mom followed me in her completely stock Jeep Grand Cherokee (she has since been converted) the entire way & had no issues. I went back in 2000 & stayed on the 4WD beach area & could have made TONS of cash pulling the Fords & Chevy's out of the soft sand up there & my 4Runner was only slightly modified at that time w/a lift. I thoroughly enjoyed that article as I love the OBX beaches & was thrilled to read about others' adventures on them!

Yeah, the beach side is easy, but you could get bogged down trying to cross the ruts.

But, I've seen a guy get buried up to his rearview mirrors, back on the soundside...
