I have a '99 2.7 5-speed 4x4. The driveshaft bumps the tranny fairly hard during driving. Hard enough that it can be heard in the yard at an idle. I can roll a rear tire back and forth and get the driveshaft to 'scope' in/out maybe 3/16-1/4". No oil leakage yet.

I got a set of Wheelers 5 leaf springs last year. They are more supportive of weight, but still have a fair amount of axle wrap. Can I remedy this axle wrap economically? Also, how difficult is this bearing and seal to change out?

I'm not really worried about a leak. To me, a leaking seal would be an indicator of impending bearing failure. Then I'll get concerned. I tried to recreate the described problem yesterday but it wouldn't do it. Everything was cold so I'm making a 50+ mile trip today and I'll try it again while it's hot and camera in hand.

It's got a slight lift from the springs and a little more from some 1.25" shackles. Running a fiberglass camper, too.

I'm thinking of combining the longer leaves from the old leaf packs with the ones from the Wheelers set before I attempt a ladder bar setup. I don't foresee a need for the overload springs, so I'll ditch those for additional longer leaves.

It's popular to do two things on leaf springs before a wrap bar is installed.

1. Leave overload in but cut behind axle. Stops axle wrap eventually.

2. Do similar to another main leaf and install on top of leaf pack. Allpro does this.

I've got my original leaf springs that I'm gonna use to beef up my existing set. I'm gonna do a half spring on top also. Eventually.
