Hey All,

I never thought I would list this vehicle :(.

Quick background: I found this truck on the side of the road in Montana. Bought it mid-winter with no top, no interior, no battery. Got it running, went into the garage. Had low original miles (109k) and many service records, including original window paper from the dealer in Texas. Includes the original jack and tool set. Well maintained and adult driven. Made it's way to Montana. Owned by older gentleman in Whitefish, around 2004 a refurbished automatic transmission was installed (it was either from Toyota or by Toyota). Was then sold to college kid, in Bozeman. Kid drove it, didn't care about it and left it in disrepair, only to have parts (stolen) off it while parked. I bought it and began a 10 plus year ownership. I scoured salvage yards and put the rig back together, by spring time I had returned it to a bone stock 4Runner in very nice condition. Only minor cosmetic surface rust. Over my college years I made more and more modifications and the maintenance issues were always well taken care of.

I had a master Toyota mechanic teach me how to tear down the 22RE. We did most everything, including valve job, the gaskets, the whole EFI system, new injectors, timing chain with metal guides, water pump, oil pan, distributer etc. Front oil seal and harmonic balancer. Brakes were done, bearings, body mounts, manual hubs rebuilt, etc. Added many of the 'right' parts. Also added an LC Engineering Header. Add a leaf in rear, BJ spacers in front. Has proper alignment and rolls straight at 75 mph. High output alternator for brighter lights louder music, etc. Stereo system installed with bluetooth and amplifier. This was about 5 years ago, but the truck only averages 3,000 miles per year. I have driven this car all around the west and then back to Maine. Never driven hard off-road, used it on fire roads and mountain passes. It has only been during 1 winter here, because I had no choice. The 4Runner is currently in storage.

I've spent plenty on this truck and I'm not expecting to get much out of it. It isn't perfect, it's nearly 30 years old. There is surface rust on the frame, but it is 100% SOLID, rust will wash off with water/vinegar/lemon mix. There are bumps, dents and dings. The drift boat trailer hit the tailgate, there was a hailstorm or two that dented the hood and roof. The clear coat is peeling and the bed liner coating could be redone. There is rust starting on the fenders, and bottoms of the doors. Nothing serious, overall a very solid truck, nothing like examples found on the east coast. Interior is in good shape. Seats are good, had custom superhides made by Marathon Seat Covers in Montana. NO carpet, floor was bed lined front to back, needs to be redone. Recent windshield replacement. Rear window works. Hella driving lights. Deer deflector bumper with space for winch. Tire carrier rear bumper is solid/decent, but is heavy. Custom 2.5 inch exhaust with stainless muffler. 33x9.50 R15 x5 on American Racing wheels, still have life left.

If I were going to keep this truck, I would swap in a manual trans and clean it up, add some lockers and new tires. Definitely a classic truck. Only selling to buy a Toyota that will tow my Airstream. Would consider trading toward an FJ60. I can't see myself taking any less than $5,000 for this beast, but will hear offers. My main concern is that it goes to a good home, someone that will appreciate it. If not, I will have to keep it in storage until I can afford to fully restore it. I also have a BMW 2002 to trade for an FJ60 if you want to mix it up. It would be nice to trade, but cash will help fund a Land Cruiser. Let me know what you think. Willing to drive it outside Maine, but would prefer a local transaction. Thanks for reading.

*I can send you some photos of it from a few days ago, but there is still a bunch of snow blocking the garage at camp...

Back when I first cleaned it up, wish it looked like this today!

Tell me about the 2002

The 2002 I bought about 5 years ago. Was an old lady car with an Auto trans. Nana had it in her garage for 15 years in Connecticut. Then her grandson got his hands on it for about a year (did silly things like painting valve cover red, etc). Then he went off to school, car back to garage, enter me via craigslist. Car is in excellent shape. I found every little thing that was missing on eBay and replaced everything that had issues. I did not like the auto trans, then one autumn day, as I went to park it in the garage at camp for the winter, the transmission would not shift into gear. Pulled it out in the spring and installed a 4spd from a donor 2002. The swap completely changed the dynamic of the vehicle, it is so much fun to drive. Only reason I am selling is because I really want an FJ60 and I need a 4x4 that can tow an Airstream occasionally. If I don't get a fair price I will keep it, repair the one rust spot on the driver's rocker, replace the passenger window arm, and drive it all summer. It quite honestly is a great vehicle to complement a Toyota 4x4. Volvo 240 Wagon is also FOR SALE!

It's always been driven a few times a summer, mostly to haul boards to the beach. I lived on an island the last couple summers so it was in storage for a while. I only drove it during 1 Maine winter, so not too much exposure. I would always check on it and start it up. I drove it a bit this past fall, then took it up to my Dad's camp to store it for the winter. The body rust is so insignificant and I've treated it with inhibitor every step of the way. It's hard to see it. Cosmetically the worst is the hood...hail damage in Montana years ago...the clear coast is peeling up in large chunks...replacement hood is $200. The top of the rear cap could be repainted, the truckbed liner has worn off since I painted it about 5 years ago. The frame has surface rust only and I would lay my life on how solid it is. I don't have any up close shots at the moment, but I did swing up to camp a few weeks ago to start it. Crazy it started first time in 20 degree weather. We moved it out of the garage thinking it wouldn't snow again...but then it did the next day. Snapped a few photos of it because the snow drift on it and the camp looked cool. If you forward your email address, I will send those shots...and more when I can get back up that way. I live in Portland and camp it 1 hour north, just off the highway. About 3 hours from Boston.

If you are serious let me know...would rather it go to someone on MUD. I might have to list it on Craigslist today. Found a truck I want to buy so I might need some funds sooner than expected. My cell is 207-240-0406
