Hey yall just joined because I saw some posts on here about the M416 trailer builds and ide love some input. I saw a few with extended tongues but ide like input on how long is too long. Currently it sits at 6ft from stock lunnet. I will be towing this behind a long bed tacoma for pretty far distances and turning in pretty sharp places. I will be retaining stock axle and and Firestone tires for now untill I can afford to go to and electric brake 6 lug axle with matching rims. I'll also be adding a roll and lock hitch system onto it as well and that will add about 4" onto the tongue. I'm not finished yet but so far I've braced the trailer and box ended the tongue. And added 2 more bolts to the tongue gusset mounting point For support. I plan to box in the gusset where the tongue bolts to as well..

If you are wondering yes there is a drop down tailgate. However it was welded to the frame and is sitting behind the trailer for now. I plan to make it into a swinging tail gate.

I made mine adjustable.
I can bring it in tight, to “safe” jackknife length, Or, make it longer for “road” mode and easier backing up.

I made mine adjustable, works great. I can pull it in tight for stuff like ferry crossings if they charge or leave it out if I choose to do that

I bought a trailer with an adjustable length tongue. I only ever extend it when I'm moving it around the yard by hand. Some swear by them, but it hasn't meant much to me.

As they are, these trailers have a reasonably good tongue length for towing stability. It's only when backing up that the 'A' gets into things. Is that why you're thinking of extending it, to get past the 'S' so that you can break it over nearly 90°?
