Gonna change from the pintle to a Max coupler soon, and was wondering how far I could get away with extending the receiver portion of the tongue? I'd like the overall tongue length to be about 10" longer than the pintle, but not sure I can make that happen safely?? Any ideas? I only plan to have light stuff on the tongue...maybe 100# max. Pix #1 shows the proposed extension method...#2 shows how far another person extended it...I'd like to go another 8" or so...

Cheers!

I dont have a military trailer but my lunette ring extends out from 2' up to 4'....
I have pull the trailer empty and loaded.. it feels much more smooth when it is extended out....
The receiver shaft does extend all the way to the middle of (under) the trailer tho'.

Not that you need this much but I added an 8' extension to my trailer (I built the trailer) when I had to move a bar top 20 miles.

The extension is 2" 1/4 wall tube that slips into the receiver on the tongue.

Been thinking I will just do the same thing as "flashooter" on the Expo Board....extend the frame a bit and still use a max coupler....I just won't add the basket holder part like he did...looks very simple and strong.

Cheers!

I used the bike tray from a Thule T2, and that's what I did welded a hitch receiver .
Bike trays were attached to a 2"X2" square tubing and into the receiver... Very simple, and effective...
Only down fall was mud being kicked onto bikes...

Your bike rack should work the same...
