M101A 1,2 or 3 Modification Idea (1 Viewer)

All,
With the cost of the M416 and M101 being so expensive and hard to find a nice one these days. I was thinking of getting a M101A 1,2 or 3. I would like to remove the axel and put on a 3500lb axle with electric brakes that would be more in line with axle dimensions of a jeep JK. I would like to either cut down the bed buy taking out a section of the center and re-welding or build a new box off of the frame.
Any ideas, has anyone done this before?

That wasn't you Saturday night coming west on 90 towards Del Rio?....was a real nice Sandstone FJC that got off the exit before 410 interchange...

No sir, wasn't me. I was on my way back from Beeville to New Braunfels after an afternoon of fitting new tires on a 32ft enclosed trailer in an open field. Such fun in this heat...
