This montage shows a jeep trailer lunette lock housing I designed a few years ago. My son then took my sketch and made it from some scrap steel we had laying around. It's pretty self-explanatory.

The lock is a Master pill lock. The housing around the lock prevents anyone from easily cutting it off.

At some point we're going to modify it with a heavy rebar loop on the smooth side so it can be chained to something.

In the summer it doesn't matter which way it's installed on the lunette, but because of rain and especially in icy weather, the lock should be on the bottom side.

The lunette is for illustrative purposes. It's actually a bit too small for this adapter, which was made for an M100 lunette.

BTW, this was his first practical welding project when he was learning to weld.

Actually the plates are not oversize for some lunettes. This lunette is smaller than an M100 or M416 lunette, which in turn are smaller than an M101 (US). Note that the image is a montage. The lunette is actually part of the pic with the locking plates above it. The plates below have been montaged in and are out of scale.

Also, it was my son's first fabrication project. I left the dimensions up to him. Wanted him to simply go from a rough sketch to the finished item, thinking things through like dimensions. Much more instructive that way.

Been thinking about a lock for mine, and wow that one is a beast. Good welding too.
