Hi guys:

I am planning to take the Aussie Locker out of my 12/78 FJ40 rear axle and put it into the rear axle of my 1991 FJ80.

A search revealed that someone 'thought' that they were interchangeable. Torq Masters site also shows that it is the same application.

Can I get a comfirmation that this is possible before I dig in?

thanks!

Eric

Freind of mine just talked with them and they said that it's doable. Same part # like what you said just a few install differences. I don't remember what they were, but, he's on here you can pm him. Jaysdead40

He has two sitting in boxes for his project 40, but, the 80's gonna use one of'em.

Good luck! :)

Hi Jay,

Yes, the Aussie Locker will work with a full-floater rear. The only
difference in the differentials is that the full-floater does not use
the thrust block aqnd C-clips that are used with the semi-floater. I
know that this is true for the FJ-40's; I personally am not sure if the
80's use the exact hardware as the 40's. All the 40 front ends are full
floaters and the Aussie Locker works fine in them. If the 80's match the
40's you should not have a problem.

Eric,
This was the closest thing to an answer that I could get. It is straight from the source so it should be good info.
Good luck, Jay

thanks, Jay:

The 1991 is a semi-floater. I think the full-floaters began in 93 or so. So I think it should be exactly like the FJ40 - C-clips and all.
