Well what an afternoon.

Yesterday I was going between jobs driving around in my own little world. Driving along and suddenly see red & blue
lights flashing in the rearview and a siren blairing. O Oh better pull over. Copper gets out and tells me I was going 79k's i
in a 60 zone, failed to indicate round a roundabout, don't have current rego sticker displayed and my tires are to wide
and sticking out past the flares.

By this time I will thinking what i d!@khead I am and estimating the $1000 odd bucks in fines. But..... hang on a minute.....
hey mate how's it going. I hadn't bumped into this mate for a while but he is a good bloke. 'He who shall not be named'
grabbed my rego that was in the glove box (yes Doug's Tub) and licence. Checked out the cruiser to make sure it was rego'd
and legit. Came back and told me if it was any other copper in town that picked me up I would have been screwed. I had
broken enough rules to give a copper his daily quota of tickets.

Needless to say when I got home I put the new rego sticker on and had a beer to calm my nerves. Today I went to the
local tyre shop and got them to take off my spacers and put new stick on balancing weights on the rims so they wouldn't
rub on the TRE's. Tyres now within the flares. Also been keeping extra special notice of speedo and indicating.

Haven't had so much as a a speeding fine for years and this was a good wake up call. Could have cost me so much more.
Also booked the cruiser in to get a new clutch next week. The pilot bushing is squealing its tits off and i haven't got time to
fix it. Just saved a grand anyways.

Sorry for the rant.
I should be doing more of this:steer:
Has this sort of thing happened to anyone else? Stories of the one that got away:D

Cheers.

Boogie, go buy a lotto ticket..NOW:D

That was a close shave !!!

Unfortunately.....I never got away, I previously had a red HJ75 troopie, it was a really clean unit. I took alot of pride in that vehicle always legal mods, flares etc.The front number plate was to big with the winch so I got some really tasteful stick on numbers for the front bar. Something similar to the relflective house letter boxes used to have.
A copper was in the left lane next to me at the lights, it was one of those close out lanes you have to give way to in SA. Any way I did give way to him but he was going so slow !! I just about had to stop, next thing he pulls me over with the lights.

I am thinking WTF. I was with my buddy going surfing, in bare feet, so I jumped out. He drills me on my mud flaps missing ( I had just taken them off to go on the beach so they would not get pulled out the guards if I got bogged and went in reverse) I noticed his vehicle ( a commodore ) didnt have any either. I pointed this out and he freaked !! He did the walk around and got me for the front plate. Unbeknown to me the law had changed the day before...full size plates only:crybaby: He also got me for driving in bare feet.
He put a defect sticker on my window:mad:
I lost it.... asking why he was picking on me...my buddy was telling me to shut up !! The cop says " you better listen to ya mate "

I quickly shut up, he explained I could still drive the vehicle but I had 24 hours to rectify the " problems "

I went surfing and took the troopy to a cop shop the next day and the guy on duty was really good, he reckoned I must of got the guy on a bad day. I explained I mouthed off....he laughed and said that was not very smart.

But I learnt a lesson....keep your mouth shut and smile. Those guys are just doing their job

Words of wisdom there NT.

Being polite to the police helps heaps.

Good tip about removing the mud guards too, I'll remember that. I haven't done much beach driving but of been reading
heaps about driving techniques and have some sand recovery gear. I plan on heading down to S.A. beaches this summer.
Round Robe or Salt Creek to camp on the beach and catch a Mulloway. I.ve wanted to do that trip for a few years but
something has always got in the way. Weather or broken Pajero. Got the cruiser now and its tip top or will be when the new
clutch is in next week.

Thanks for sharing your run in with the law.

I am a law abiding citizen but every now and then I stuff up:)

For Robe Beach tips, that robe sand is soft and fluffy !! air down first and always expect someone to be coming the other way thru the dunes, I had a few close encounters down there. Some of the locals get wound up speed wise:steer:

Beware the dreaded S Easter down there too, man that sand blows around, get in behind the dunes and have a roaring fire. When the SE it can be the best time to catch a Mulloway in the gutters. They love it foamy and wild with a nice fresh squid on;)

That mud flaps is a good tip, its hard to put the flaps back on when the holes are all stretched and torn:o

Millicent is alot quieter, dont forget to chuck in a snorkel and face mask if it is calm, lots of cray fish down there hiding on the reefs:D

Thanks for the tips mate.

Thinking about places like that and getting out there 4x4ing and camping keeps
me going while I'm at work.

Cheers.
