Searched this forum checking so see if anybody has done this swap on a 100 series. Couldn't really find anything either about it online, so I just went ahead and did it myself. TL;DR: Have to modify the spine area bushing to get a LS400 wheel to fit.

So I just picked up this '00 LX470 really cheap a few days ago. The original wheel felt like sandpaper with how chipped the finish was. There was a '98 LS400 at a pick-n-pull near me so I went ahead and grabbed the wheel. Alright condition for $20.

Popped off my own wheel and discovered the 400 wheel wouldn't fit. LS400 wheel on the left, LX470 wheel on the right.

So basically there's a white bushing that's too small for the LS wheel to slide on. You have to cut it down for the wheel to fit. I used a hacksaw to get the majority off and then sanded the rest. Here's a picture of it (already cut) in progress:

Looking back I'd recommend just taking the white plastic thing off. 3 Screws hold it in. I popped it off to clean all the dust out and lube it up a bit. Took a few test fits to get the wheel right. Here's some pictures of everything buttoned up:

Final product installed using the LX's original airbag. No rattles or anything out of the ordinary. The blinker returning to position after a turn still works. I was lazy and didn't swap over the LX's cruise control and wires so the horn/cruise control aren't working. Or I messed up the clockspring. Either way I'll swap over the hardware when I get a chance and try to fix that. Forgot the right side hole covers at the yard so I'll have to go back and get those too when i get the chance.

I'm about to pull the trigger on this as well but for a 99 LX470. How's it holding up? Where you able to swap the Cruise and Horn over with no issues?

Just got one. Remember someone saying it will bolt right on but yeah that white piece won’t allow that. Part of the steering angle sensor? I’ll have to see if I can cut that piece out. Way cheaper than getting mine redone ($15 vs $400-$600) and I like it better than the original (all leather LC)

Reviving this thread. Can anyone who has done this swap verify that the LX/LC airbag can be swapped to the LS wheel? I assume the answer is yes, but want to make sure so that I don’t have a Lexus emblem inside my Land Cruiser :pompous:

Do you happen to have the part number for that little white piece that needs to be cut? I want to make sure I can order a spare just in case.

No issues with swapping the back in the future. Yeah I don’t think those parts are interchangeable (the angle sensor piece)

I wonder if buying that piece for the LS400 would work.

That white piece from an ls300 will work perfect. I just swapped my wheel for a Prado wheel (looks just like the LS wheel OP posted).

On the left is the white piece from my 99 LC. Right piece is from an ls300. I searched eBay for "ls300 combination wiper switch" and bought an entire assembly with wiper/turn signal for around $30. I pulled the piece and spring out of the assembly. You must use the spring under the piece. The steering wheel connects to those 3 studs and pushes down on the piece/spring.

These pieces connect your steering wheel to your clock spring and make it turn. They also cancel the turn signal so it's important to have it on there.

Last note: There are several Toyota models that have this same piece but I've only tested the ls300 one I purchased.
