I would love to figure this one out! Sometimes after I brake suddenly, my 2004 Land Cruiser will lose significant power to accelerate. It feels like it has about 25% of the normal power. It has happened since I owned it in 2017, but has gradually started to happen more. I can gas it and slowly it will get up to speed. To remedy it, if I turn off my LC for a couple of minutes and turn it back on, it typically resolves it.

In addition, my LC has the classic clunk between Drive and Reverse that I have read many threads about, but am unable to determine a solution.

Perhaps the transmission is not downshifting after you've decelerated? 2004 year has "lifetime" transmission fluid but it really isn't. If it has never been done, I'd change out the transmission fluid whether related to your current problem or not.

Thanks so much! I will get that a try, it does feel like it is stuck in 2nd gear.

I am definitely thinking transmission fluid. Level and quality of fluid.
