So i bought an 80 a couple monthes back and got a great deal, I decided to take everyones advice and get the head gasket issue taken care of. Well the HG went good but when i got it back together it was running a little rough and after i drove it twice it died and will not restart it sounds like it has no compresion. Anyone in the waukesha area have and experience with these things. If it was a 22re I could take it apart blind folded

have you pulled plugs and put a compression tester on there?

done any tests with vacuum leaks?

i think at this point it has no compression but i will know for sure when i get home tonight. I wen to drive it after i got the air out of the cooling system and it was running ok i took of from a stop sign and that was it. the truck shut off and i had to drag it home. It spins like there is nothing there. I will pull the valve cover when i get home to see it the chain is still there.

are these interference engines?

Does anyone know if I actually have to take the head back off to do a timming chain on the 4.5? Or is it like the 22RE were you can just drop the pan I wanted to do that anyway it seems to be leaking a little.

I found the problem the dowel pin on the xhaust cam broke off. Is this repairable? Also were could I source a new cam?

I would ask 4LLC here. He knows more than most and is a toyota master mechanic. Done lotsa work to my rigs in the past.

I was able to get the dowel pin out of the camshaft it is the same size as the dowel pins on the distributor drive gear on a 22RE. I am going to try to remove one and put it in there. There should be little or no preasure on this pin. I think it broke because I placed the drive gear on in the wrong spot.
