I am wanting to get my first portable gas stove. The intended use will be for tailgating and taking my wife and children camping.
I found this stove that was EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE but now has a good sale price. I have read where the stove cooks too high though.DLT Trading Company
How about Coleman?

I still use my white gas coleman. Most friends have those high falutin spin on catridge type stoves. If and when, yeah right, this coleman dies I'll probably find some propane fired stove. .02

We use thye 2 burner coleman stoves. Have used them for years. We just replaced some, and were going to give the old ones to another troop. I'll try to get you one if you like. They need to be cleaned up, but are still working. I took one apart about a year ago and cleaned and painted it and claimed it as mine...Let me know if you want one.

Speaking of Coleman stoves (what I have too) and Scouts...

This summer is the 100th Anniversary BSA National Jamboree at Fort AP Hill. If you can wait until August, almost every troop that goes will be unloading nearly ALL their gear for really great prices to help pay for some of the cost of taking the trip. Stoves, tents, footlockers, 5gal water coolers, tables, etc. Lots of stuff...hang tight for a while.

Just a few things I bought after the last Jamboree:
8' table = $5
Coleman 2burner propane stove = $8
Dining Fly (heavy tarp with poles, guylines, stakes) = $8
RubberMaid action packer (large = $60 at Lowes) = $12

I'm going to buy new. I am really funny about certain things and I guess since I am a cook I like to cook on things that I know what have been done to them. I never buy used equipment for work. Well almost never.
Thanks for the offer thought guys.

But, this isn't for work...and it'll have been used for a week.

New...3 squares a day for a week...done...$8...:meh:

if it's barely used then I will take it. how do I get it?

I had the old Coleman white gas for many years and replaced it with a propane spin on canister type back in 1993....and never looked back. The things are basic and plain and not very fancy but for cooking a lower elevations they work great. Unscrew canister, detach attachment, wipe off surface with rag, close lid and you are done. The coleman and a propane burner like you use for fish fry's and turkey cookers I think you can do about anything.

You can get a double burner that runs off full size propane like Milligan has but they do take more room to lug around with their larger heavier size plus the full size tank for fuel.

Amazon.com: Coleman Two-Burner Propane Stove: Sports & Outdoors
got to light with match or some other device....style I currently have been using for 15 years. I think this one is 10,000 btu's...

Amazon.com: Coleman Electronic Ignition Propane Stove with Handle - Red: Sports & Outdoors
newer model with electronic ignition and better performance at high altitudes and better wind guards. This one is 20,000 btu's

Brock,
don't those use gasoline as a fuel as well?

We (the adults in the troop) got us a 3 burner with 2 10,000 and 1 15,000 btu burners. I love it. It's all we ever use. Also the regulator on the sides of the coleman (and others) will hook up to a hose to use a 20 lb. tank. Thats the way we have been doing it with the scouts for years. With a tree, we can set up 2 stoves and a lantern on 1 bottle.

not the ones I have...they are the propane cylinders. These links are the small propane canisters as well...not gas. Takes different setup...not interchangeable.

i would not want white gas stove any more...i always hated the fuel spilling, everything tasting or smelling like fuel....and the threat of an accident with it. No more mess in my vehicle, backpack, or camp chest....I love propane. :D :D

I am not a fan of the idea of cooking with gasoline.

I recommend a Coleman for the money. I looked at several "top of the line" ones at REI and they didn't even have serviceable burners. Coleman has several versions of the 2-burner stove and I chose the one that is somewhat serviceable for about $70. The burner elements (round chrome-plated parts) are removable on this one and that allows you to clean or replace them should they become clogged. I also bought the adapter hose which allows me to use a standard LP tank. To save on cargo space I bought a half-size (10lb) steel tank and I can get it filled for less than $10. It will last me all season on one fill up.

You should check out the Coleman outlet store at exit 149 (I-85) in Commerce, GA or see if they have another location near you.
