I thought all 416s had a solid rear panel and floor plugs originally...

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

All 416s were made to be watertight and float with 500lbs of cargo. No tailgate was provided.

I believe the civilian versions of the M100 and M416, even the M101CDN were made with tailgates. Otherwise, what they said, solid floater!

All M100s/M416/M101CDN were solid tub with no tailgate. No civilian versons were ever made of these. The only civilian verion was of the BT3 which was the Bantam trailer made during WWII. After the war there was a civilian version made call the BT3-C. Like was mentioned all the these military 1/4 ton trailers were design to float. I do believe some one was able to purchase a Japanese military 1/4 trailer and I think it had a stock tailgate but the US and Canada did not have a tailgate.

Here is the Japanese trailer I was talking about.

Thanks for claifying. I knew there was a civie trailer and it had a tailgate. I didn't mean to say that any military trailer had a tailgate in it's design. I'll leave it to the pros!
