I am fairly new to the Lx/Lc world, so please bear with me until I am up to speed. After putting over 150k miles on a Supra that makes over twice the stock power, and not ever having one single problem, I figured that a Toyota SUV was the way to go. However, from reading the message board I am a little unnerved by the number and variety of problems people seem to have with their Lc/Lx’s. I hope that many of these problems are attributed to the extreme use these vehicles are subjected to. So far I have put over 50k miles on a 99 that I bought with 50k miles on it, and have been pretty satisfied. I am surprised to hear that Toyota put a week front differential in the 98-99 Lc. I assumed that after I loaded up the diff in my supra with over 600hp and dumped the clutch countless times while on slicks, that the one thing Toyota knows how the design and build is a differential.
My novice questions are as follows:
My novice questions are as follows:
- While in low range gears the transfer case makes a noticeable wine, is this normal? Does the transfer case have it own lubricating system, or does it share transmission fluid with the transmission?
- How much torture can I expose my 99 front diff to, until I can expect some problems?
- How many people have replaced their starter contacts more than once? I hear of a lot of people doing it at around 40-60k miles, and then never having a problem with it again.
- What kind of problems can I anticipate with a 99 LX with over 100k miles?
