Hello everyone:
First of all, I'm happy that this fiasco didn't happen to my 100 series LX 😂 It happened to my so far extremely reliable RX😡, unfortunately. But since I trust you guys more than any other shops in the area, I hope it would be fine to seek advice here. Hopefully some other members can benefit from your expert advice and wisdom also.

A local shop upsold me a rear diff fluid change when I brought the RX in for an oil change. When they installed the 2 drain bolts back, they put the one with the magnet on top and the one without on the bottom of the diff, which is wrong. Also the bottom one was likely not torqued/fit properly. After 1000 miles for 2 months, the fluid was completely gone and there was loud grinding noise with increasing frequency at higher speed. Took it to a Toyota/Lexus specialty shop and they took pictures of the empty diff carrier. Lots of metal debris came out. They concluded what likely happened was as mentioned and are ordering a used rear diff to replace costly. Has anyone had similar experience and what action can I take to get the first shop cover my cost? (I understand it won't be easy as the first shop will not admit their fault.)

Thanks for any advice!
