I have a thread in the classified section getting no love, so I thought I'd post here. Since Can-Back is in flux and who knows when they'll start fabricating tops again, I was hoping a fellow MUD'er would be willing to loan me his rails system for his Can-Back on a 1st generation Tacoma. I'd like to try to fabricate a set for my own top since I only have the hoops but not the rails to go with. I imagine I'll try to replicate mine using stainless steel.

Would anyone be willing to ship me their can-back rails to borrow for a few weeks, and the trip will be on my dime?

Thanks in advance.

OK, 61 hits and no replies. Is it a trust issue? Are folks running their can-backs already for the warmer season? Are folks just not interested? No can-backs out there?

Give me some feedback so I can qualify what's lacking in this approach.

I'd really like to get this can-back system set up for summer. Help a bruthah out!

Thanks

Is can-back still making tops? I've been thinking of ordering one but this thread has me wondering?

I called them to ask if I could get parts and they said "no" - flatly. Their website indicates they are shopping around for a new canvas manufacturer. They were previously working with a GM supplier and that company apparently went belly up. Go figure.

All of this is to say that as soon as Can-Back can secure a canvas manufacturer, they will be back in business. But that could be months or more.

This is not the first time Can-back has had problems I've discovered...what a hassle for you.

Won't be too much so as long as someone out there has some rails. May just have to eventually break down and custom fabricate something from scratch. We'll see! Thanks for support though.

You got my PM right? re: the write up.

I did. It was helpful, but his were for a 4runner and not the easiest to read - good start though! Sorry if I neglected to thank you for passing that along!

Took some measurements on the Taco over the weekend for some stainless rails. Traveling for work this week but having the fiancee contact the local steel supply shop to order up the parts for me. Should be interesting to get a report on the order.

I'll keep you posted and may also do a build thread soon.

Thanks again.
