I have searched and search and now I am out of time.

I need info on finding a repair manual for my 91 prado, I want to know if there is anywhere I can go to interpret the serial number, and I need to know where I can get a head and gaskets in the apparrently likey situation that mine breaks. Also, how do I know what oil filter to get?

thanks in advance, this is a great forum.

luxury imports may have the manuals.

www.4wheelauto.com should have the parts you need. Or import them from oz.

Sorry to hear you have another one of these trucks that constantly blow heads.

EBI cruser parts in port moody 81 Moray Street Port Moody, 604-461-3540 has the gasket set and head, they said they newer 2.4L heads are stronger but they reccomend using the 3L head instead of the 2.4L one. My truck has a 3L head on it. They have manuals on the way (currently on a ship somewhere in the pacific) but they do not have a ETA. I am waiting for one also, it sure would make it a lot easier to install my alarm with the manual!!!

I've been buying my filters from EBI as well, but they are very expensive the oil filter is $35 and air filter is $47.50, I have samples of each and will look for more reasonably priced filters after I finish the alarm install.

Bond Mechanical did my head, they told me that their parts supplier in Japan asked for the head serial number, when they were looking for the gasket set (didn't have the head off at this point so we didn't the head was cracked) apparently Toyota changed the alloy the heads were made from part way through the 91 model year, the newer one's are stronger (like the new 2.4L are) but there are head gasket issue's with both heads.

timing belt

we have just bought a land cruiser efi pradà 1992 lj78, the timing belt light has come on, can some one help me with this problem please ? i have just joined so i hope it is correct, thanks

Timing belt

The light tells you to change the timing belt. It apparently runs on mileage but there is a time element as well. Maybe 150,000 km and I have heard claims from 5 years to 15 years.... I Don't know, but I did mine at 100,000 km. It is much less expensive to replace it before it fails.....

Still Lookin' for LJ78 Manual

I got a pretty good price from 4Wheel Auto on the oil filters($24.95) and fuel filters ($23.95) so I bought 2 of each to last me for the whole next year. Has anyone done any good research into how often to change the filter? This turned into a messy and problematic job (sooty black oil is still under my fingernails and on the driveway as a result) mostly due to the problem of such high oil pressure and the resultant tightness of the filter and the fact I didn't have a big enough tool to remove it. (no jokes here, okay?) I drilled it first and then used a big honkin' screwdriver to do the deed while lying on my back in a light drizzle. It was a wonderful experience, and one makin' me think of one of those padded creepers. I'm sure there is an easier way, just buy a hoist! Maybe I'll leave it to Jiffylube next time!

Anyone try EBI recently for a manual?

I asked EBI for a manual last week, they still don't have it.

The toyota service schedule state's oil changes every 5,000 Km's and filter change every 10,000 Km's, I have been doing the filter with the oil every 5,000 Km's

I am loyal to EBI but has anyone tried Nick at JDM imports?

There is a couple of FSM for the 2L 2LT on Aussie eBay,one of them for $25 BIN. Im not sure if you guys have 2LTE

Hello, first post here! I have myself a 92 LJ78, and it just kills me that I don't have a repair manual for it. I don't even have an owners manual. What sort of manuals is EBI bringing over? Cause I would like to have one!

Is there a forum just for LJs or is it the 70 forum?

EBI is trying to find english repair manuals, I just called them. They haven't been able to find them in Japan and are looking in England now.

I've already installed a alarm and replaced the front axle bearings/seals with out one,I think by the time I get a manual for my TLC I'll already know it inside and out.

Nope no forum just for LJ's, there is however info in the diesel tech and 24 volts forum and also INTL - JDM alliance forum, and of couse there is always search - some parts on our trucks are the same as other landcruiser's, I found rebuild instructions for a 80 series rad fan that are pretty much the same for the 78.

you can reset the timing light by removing a small rubber stopper located on the plastic screen just above the odometer and inserting a 3 inch nail; the reset button is right below that plug. Mine came on at exactly 100k, so I think the reset button sets the light to come on another 100k later (i.e. if you reset it at 80k , it should come on again at 180k)

Hi ....My car in India is an LJ79.It has a 3L engine.....have searched all over the web for an owners manual for the car and also a workshop manual for the 3L engine. The only manual i found for the 3L was in French....any info would be welcome.Thanks.

There's a lot of us out here that need an english LJ 78 manual! I have a 1990 and it's my only vehicle, so I'm trying to do as much preventative maintenance as possible. I've changed the timing belt and water pump, all Vee belts and just got Okanagan Diesel Injection here in my home town of Vernon BC to recondition the injectors with parts supplied by Mustang Auto in Armstrong.

I've put 15,000 km on it in the since I purchased it in July and so far no major problems. I need to service the front axle. One of the hubs wasn't locking because the electic motor/gearbox combination had malfunctioned. I removed the motor and discovered the tiny gear that - not much bigger than a pin head - that drives the gearbox and ultimately locks/unlocks the hubs was slipping on the motor shaft. I glued it and got it working again only then to nearly distroy the whole assembly by not having everthing aligned when I put the hub cover back on. Still works but I'm looking for manual hubs!

Now I want to service the wheel bearings but need a diagram and some how-to advice as I've never done this job before.

I was very concerned about having a cracked head but so far no cooling issues even when pulling up 4,000 foot climbs on days when the temperature reached 35 C in the Okanagan. The guage just climbs above half way.

This is the most useful vehicle I've ever owned. It's comfortable, economical (28 MPG before the injectors were done) and with the coil springs has a good ride.
