What's going on guys?? I was wondering if anyone would be willing to check out an fj40 for me in Woodbridge? Since I am half way across the continent, I'm not able to do it myself.. If you can, and are willing, please pm and we can figure something out.

Thanks for reading!

I'm about a half-hour away from there, so I could do it. but there might be someone closer that with greater knowledge of cruisers.

Let me send this out to our club email list and see what response I get...

I'll see if I can take a look at it today. I'll give you a report when I get back.

I haven't seen it...its actually a '77. The body looks to be in pretty decent shape from the pictures, but unfortunately there are not close up shots. I could probably get there to take a look next week if cruiser ken doesn't get the chance to get out there.

I hope that price is a typo!

I have not seen the truck, but I called and talked to the guy about it. He bought it as a fixer upper from a lemon lot, said that he was a mechanic and did not have time to "restore it" and then went on and on about how these trucks were selling for $40,000.00 now that the FJ cruiser was out, yada yada yada...

I asked for pics of the usual rusty places and never heard back from him.

Grey,

It was a pleasure to drive a three on the tree, reminded me of my first car back in the day. You shift linkage has just a wee bit of play to add to the driving fun. Nice truck overall.

I also asked him for a further description of the vehicle including pics, and he didn't say much past it was an older vehicle and needed a little work. I guess we will find out soon..

Here's the deal on this cruiser. Guy had it about a year, bought it from some dealer lot that bought it running at auction. The engine was smoking so they pulled it for rebuild, some of the engine is in the back of the cruiser. It doesn't look to be complete (block and some parts). Everything I saw on the cruiser was stock. Front disk axle is there (as would be expected for a 78, the date of manufacture was 77 but this is a 78 model). It's got some rust, the frame doesn't look too bad. Firewall and floor pans for the front seats look pretty clean. Under the front doors is pretty rough, bottoms of the front doors are rough, back of the tub is pretty rough, as are the bottoms of the ambi doors. All of it is fixable though with some steel from CCOT (the bottom door pieces, etc). For an east coast truck rust-wise it's in good shape. Comparing it to the west coast rigs I've owned, it's defintiely worse. The tranny, transfer case and drivelines are still in it. Me personally, I'd give no more than $1500 for it. You could pick up a cheap 2F and have it back on the road pretty quickly. If you are thinking you want a clean resto, this one is going to take a lot of work. I'd take it completely back to the frame and have it dipped if you go that route. HTH.

Hey guys..

I appreciate the check on it.. I asked to have someone check it out, and 2 of you guys ended up going out there for me. What a great response.. For me it is out of the questions, especially since I have to factor in sending it out here to me.. But, it's nice to always check on these rigs..

Again, thanks to the two guys that checked it out.. Happy trails.
