We were out in Moab last week, running Cruise Moab. It is indeed shut down. The amazing thing is that the many years worth of black tire tracks running up Lion's Back have been completely washed away already.
So if someone tells you that running on slickrock produces permanent damage to the environment, you can tell them that's BS. It disappears quickly and completely. People were running Lion's Back in Nov. 2006. Now, six months later, all tracks are gone.
For most of us who love Moab, this isn't really a big deal. I've run most of the trails we offer at Cruise Moab, and a few others, but I never had the desire to run Lion's Back when it was open. There are plenty of good climbs on Hells Revenge, Golden Spike, Behind The Rocks, and others.
