BJ43 – FOR SALE
BJ43 - 1978 (November)
VIN = BJ43003340 (Fine-Code = BJ43L-KW)

‘Red Emma’ (or Emma for short) acquired her name in 2006 during her frame off restoration; performed by TOYOTA in Hamburg – Germany. However Emma’s fully documented story began much earlier then that.

First though, most of you won’t know me as I have not been active on the various lists – I’ve been working overseas and out of the North American TLC action. In 1998, I was member # twelve of the Rocky Mountain Landcruiser Association – out of Calgary Canada. If any of you know Peter, Bruce, Marc, Warren, and Wayne etc from the RMLCA – they will vouch for me. I’ve maintained my TLCA #9126 over the years and now that I have returned to Canada (living in the East) will become active in the local TLC community. You can reach me at toddsquad2@gmail.com.

EMMA - The Early Years:
Late in 1978, Emma was purchased by an Expedition Outfitter and was shipped originally to The Netherlands. Soon after, Emma was shipped to Africa and invested a couple of years on Safari in the county of Mali. (Western Africa, Southwest of Algeria)

In the early 80’s, during Emma’s time on Safari, a German tourist apparently fell in love with her, purchased Emma and had her sent back to Europe. A custom hard top was fabricated using two 40 Series hard tops and the original Soft Top - along with all support tubing and frame accessories – was crated and stored. To this day, the custom Hard Top remains the only non-stock element to the original Emma – however the original soft top, along with a recently fabricated spare, have been placed in purpose built soft vinyl luggage – ready for a new owner who would like to take Emma’s top off!

EMMA – How she found me:
It all began late in April 2003, when I moved from Canada to The Netherlands; as part of a four-year foreign work assignment. I was naturally excited about all of the exotic LHD TLC’s available in Europe and soon traveled to Karenz Germany for the 2003 International Landcruiser Meeting. This is a yearly event with typically +200 Landcruisers from across Europe. Back then, the driving force behind the event was Tom Dahm and Andreas Beusker, two colleagues that became close friends. For pictures please see http://www.rmlca.ab.ca/charla/Germany/index.html (Reference The Toyota Trails Jan/Feb '04 issue - which describes this past event in more detail).
For 2008, reference Int. LandCruiser Meeting - LandCruiser Meeting is coming home!

In October 2003, Tom and Andreas came to visit me in The Netherlands and after watching a few videos of North American Landcruising, plus a few beers …. I started jabbering about how cool it would be to find an old BJ43 to take back to Canada when I returned in 2007. As the saying goes, ‘the rest was history’. We got on the web and with some friends who understand the language; we were lucky enough to find Emma. When Tom and Andreas returned to Germany, they stopped by and took Emma for a drive then bought her – on my behalf.

EMMA – The Restoration:
The restoration really got to a good start in 2005 when Tom’s friend (Shop Manager at one of Hamburg – Germanys - Toyota Dealerships) agreed to take on the project of performing a complete frame off restoration on Emma.

Over the subsequent ~twelve months, into 2006, Emma went through an entire frame off restoration in one of Toyota’s Hamburg facilities. The project was carefully monitored/managed by Tom Dahm (President Toyota Landcruiser Club - Germany).

On June 25, 2007 I repatriated back to Canada; Emma followed me soon after in August.

EMMA – Why am I selling her?
Simply put, after returning to Canada I have had tremendous good fortune with respect to Toyota Landcruiser ownership. I was recently able to purchase a large selection of 70 series parts that – among other things - included a sweet LHD 75 p/u as well as a spare 70 series tub. The 75 is now my daily driver and I’m also in the process of building up a LHD BJ70. In addition, I also own a 1977 FJ45 that I’ve been restoring over the past ~decade. The FJ45 restoration is 98% complete, all stock with strong 2F with custom Fuel Injection, electronic ignition, Power Steering, two piece Headers, Stainless Exhaust, Disc Brakes, Newfields. This nice FJ45 will be for sale in the coming weeks. (If you are interested in the FJ45, let me know http://www.willyotas.com/Todds.html).

EMMA BJ43 PRICE

For Emma, I’m considering all offers in excess of US $35,000. For photo’s please follow the attached links. Let me know if you are interested and I’ll do my best to answer any questions you may have.

Todd
