I am having Lexus finally replace my dash and another Lexus repair guy told me while the dash was pulled out have them replace the expansion valve and evaporator core. Well I asked the stealership if they could do this and they came back with a quote of $1,600. The denso parts on Rock Auto are $120 so I know that it is a 6 hour job do the evap core. I figure with the dash out that would cut down some of the time.

Question is has anyone else had issue with leaky evaporator core? Has anyone else had this repair done while dash was out?

I really hate using the Lexus dealer because our local one is always high and they don't care that they are sometimes 50% higher than they need to be.

This was their quote.

The labor is 8.0 hours at $145.00 rate. They charge more than Mercedes dealer.

Evaporator $373.99

Exp. Valve $122.90

Dryer $113.98

Refrigerant varies $25.0 - $60.00 depending on how much is needed.

Replacing the evaporator is a considerably more involved job than just the dash. The dash is rather easy. Once the dash is out, there's a lot more work ahead to get to the evaporator. I understand their position, but see if the can knock off a few hundred or so. I replaced my evaporator myself and it was horrible. I'd never want to do that again.

I am not going to do it. Just glad they are finally doing the dash mine has gotten real bad
