if you look at my thread about my rear suspension, you know i had to replace a broken spring. it that time, i also installed two add-a-leafs.
this bought my rear up a little more than original height.
measure at the rear drivers side was 32" to the top of the wheel well, were it was 29 before the new leafs. problem is, after two weeks of letting things settle out, and re-torquing the u-bolts, my difference between the rear wheel well heights is almost 2"!!!!!!!
I said, this cant be. with new dakar springs and add-a-leafs, i should be off a little, given the sag that most have.
so here is what i did to test.
I raised the rear fram up so it was level accross the bumper. then i took a ' level, and sat it on the front bumper, figuring that it shouls also be level, since both front tire are sitting on the ground.
wrong!
the front drivers side is almost 1-1/2" lower. this makes me think the spring there is broken as well, or at least shot. I replaced all four with CCOT springs about 20k ago,a nd those front sure look flat, almost to the point of being arched the other way.
then i lowered the rear back down, and raisd the front drivers side ( by the frame) until my 6' level was even.
my thought was that the front drivers side spring was so flat, it was acting like a flat tire, effectivly lowering the front drivers side, and raising the reas passenger side, just like when you get a flat. the opposite corner always raises itself.
i was right. when i leveled out the fron frame, the passenger rear dropped utill the side-to-side lean was un-noticable.
my conclusion: the front springs are shot.
does this sound like a right conclusion???

sorry about the long post, and if im confucing any one., but this seems to be my problem.
any input???

I don't have a whole lot of exp. with cruisers. Just got my first one back in Nov. Every toyota pick-up and even my 62 had the driver side swag....they all do with factor equipment, as far as I can tell. The complete OME kit has the driver rear a little longer to correct it......1500 bucks, no swag, new springs, shocks, bushings, and 3 inches of lift...you decide.

I looked at add a leafs but decided just to spend a little more and only do it once instead of every year.

Well, from what I heard and have experienced, cruiser lean is very common and is just part of the game. It is just something you may have to get used to, whether you have stock springs or aftermarket ones.

I have also made efforts not to carry around fat women unless I absolutely have to, as they can be part of the problem as well.

oh, maaaan...no more fat women?????

but it does sound logical, correct?

Logic seems sound to me. There are spacers that can go inbetween the spring and the axle to compensate for this problem. I think MAF has 'em. But, replacing springs sounds like a more permanent solution.

figured out!

seems the mechanic didnt know, and i didnt know, and MAF's guy didnt tell me, that the rear leafs for the 60 are in fact right and left designated.
a peek under the truck at the #'s painted on the springs, and a call to MAF confirmed what i hoped was true.....they were installed backwords.
now i have to try to get the mechanic to fix it without cost.
time to do soem tap-dancing......

fixed

suspension guy swapped the springs, free of charge.!!!!!

Congrats! How's it drive?

nice, even with the add-a-leafs. they out in a new steering stablizer, since the old one really did look like an original.
tighter on the curves, less rear feeling of floating.
maybe its just me but i feel the difference. and i got a real man stance from the rear.
