Where is that oil/gas mix seeping from? I picked up my saw this am and it was sitting in a puddle! I have not run it in months but it leaked before when I first refilled it after it arrived from KliersLC. Caps are on tight, but maybe it's internal? I hate to send it in for service but I might not be able to figure it out...

You guys care to speculate?

How bad is the leak?

All saws have a fuel tank vent. When it get warm out and the fuel tank is full it will weep fuel out the vent just a bit.

Do not block this vent. It's primary purpose is to allow air into the fuel tank as the fuel is drawn through the carburetor. If this vent is block it will not allow air in and the saw will run like it running out of fuel after about 3-5 minutes of run time.

You also may have a broken fuel line.

There was a puddle to the rear in the shape of the saw's bottom maybe 7" X 3", the shape of the handle basically.

Maybe I overfilled it? The weather has been obviously hotter here in TX and it's even hotter in my garage.

I wish I had some technical info on the saw but it's old. I have been told the parts are interchangeable with the newer 281/288 Husky saws. Could be BS though.

Does fuel evaporate in TX? With your humidity levels there this is a serious question.

When do you think you might have overfilled it? When is the last time you used it?

Are you sure it is not bar and chain lube? Some of it can get pretty darned thin in the heat.

You know what you are right it probably is bar lube.........stinks like chainsaw that's been running. The saw ran really well about early spring then I put it away here at our place. It had been at the farm. I recall my fatherinlaw saying the bar oil had leaked and he sat it on a bunch of cardboard. I did the same. By the way that puddle was bluish black and kinda transparent at the edges.

It is very common to have the bar lube weep off the saw. If you cut a lot of air the bar lube collects in the area of the side cover. When I say cutting air I mean that you occasionally start and run the saw but do not cut any wood.

Most saws have saw dust under the side cover. The sawdust will collect the oil and hold it there. When the temperatures go up the oil liquefies and it runs off the saw and creates a puddle. This also happens with a clean saw or a new saw. The oil comes off the chain at the smallest radius (sprocket) and collect under the side cover. When you set the saw down it will ooze out and all over the floor.

Yup. I cut a lot of air and I took the saw apart and cleaned out all the sawdust that had accumulated inside. I like clean tools and this thing is pretty crusty with sap and dirt, so I cleaned it all out. Needs a new handle as well since the full wrap bar is a bit bulky for down here.

s***e. I just took the full wrap off to sell it on eBay! You can search for 181 SE and it's on there now.
The saw leaked gas from its cap when I laid it on its side to take off the handle.
I am changing to a half wrap so the saw will fit in a carrying/storage box.

Guess that gas cap gasket is history?

BTW, what's so gangsta about a full wrap handle on that saw?

Just replace the cap. You can get one from http://www.baileys-online.com/

Regarding full wraps it depends on how you are using the saw and what type of work you are doing. The majority of folks have no need for it, mainly what it does is gives a faller more options on how to attack the tree........
