OK, so I left the truck outside in pouring rain (first one she's ever seen under my watch) to find out if there are any leaks, especially from the roof rack holes I plugged. Thankfully nothing there visible yet. Also, don't see any water under the dash that could have come from a bad windshield repair - thank you God of TLCs! (oh, shoot, now I done it, shouldn't have said anything.... too late... oh well....)

Did a bit of an inspection of the back area given that I have all the trims panels off becaue of the roof rack saga. Lo and behold one tiny leak (I mean 2 or 3 drops visible drops after several hours in the rain...) But it would go completely unnoticed till it'd rot your quarter panels (ugh!) and could be much worse than mine, I imagine, in some cases: water came from the hole in the sheet metal used to secure the small side marker light on the back of the PS near the end of the truck. Probably the seal. Maybe was removed at some point? Anyway, one more thing to watch out for, especially if you have ever worked on it, maybe?. In any case, the really big inside quarter panels are very easy to remove and once removed you can check a lot of places like under the windows, fuel filler port, hatch and more. Worth it.

Probably leaking under the horizontal metal trim strip alongside the rear windows.

don't think so, saw the trail starting right at the marker light...

The cover isn't all that airtight on the inside of the cargo area. I don't think you'd have a problem with your rear quarter panel rotting out due to a few drops of water infiltrating from the side markers -- those drops should easily evaporate.

well, sure if it's a few drops, not if it's a serious leak, and how would you know if you never open the thing up?

true. good point. seems as though I open mine up quite a bit -- on the drivers side. I store stuff on that side. on the passenger side, I set up aux 12v power, so I root around in there from time to time to work on things. There holes in the bottom of both rear quarter panels that are used to route things like trailer wires and breather tubes. You could open one or both of these up if you're really concerned about water sitting in there -- but you open yourself up to water coming in through the holes if you cross deep water. I have the remnants of some brownish-grey goo in my right quarter panel that I picked up on a water crossing. it dried up, no problem.
