I think the format of the rally is that the vehicle is donated to the charity for auction in Ulaan Bataar, so in that case, some rust wouldn't be an issue.

I think that the vehicle choice comes down to what's available here in Canada that fits the bill and the budget. Considering that, it's an 86-87 HJ60 auto, if staying stock is important. The only other option is a RHD Japanese import, which will be harder on the budget.

The thought has crossed my mind.

The problem is that the auto that we have is my wifes truck and it wouldn't be cheap.

Here is an auto from California: '88 Toyota Land Cruiser Looks like it could be a good candidate for a diesel conversion? Maybe something a couple clubs could help out on for a good cause. I was going to take a look at but things got busy at work and home. Just wondering about the "dealer rebuilt" part of it. Then there is this one Toyota Landcruiser but it looks a bit on the rusty side.

Everything else on the Vancouver Craigslist with an auto is an 80 series RHD at over $17,000 or a LHD US 80 series with a gas engine at around $10,000.00.

Silkroads in Burnaby has a LWB 91 Auto Safari for 13,900.00: Canadian Importer of JDM Vehicle Diesel Delica,4X4 Delica, Land Cruiser, Pajero, Skyline, Supra other Sports, Vans and SUVs from Japan to Canada. That is about all I have found locally in BC.

Sanja, you might consider a Mitsubishi Delica. They are a very capable diesel 4x4 van. There is mechanical support for them all over the world. They may not be as trail ready 4x4 tough as a Cruiser or Safari but a great true 4x4 people mover and they sell for a lot less money.

I'm heading to the Columbia Basin Trust Fund tomorrow. Generally they don't give money to events like this but they did have a 'way in' on their web page.

I think we are looking at some where between 10k to 15k...not sure what the cost to rebuild would be on something around 5-8k?

we are also taking our son along and safety is going to be huge issue with the vehical. I have also been on the rally website and their forum...and the long and the short - there maybe pot holes you could lose your vehicle in - maybe a Ford Fiesta and climbing roaps?

i'm not young and impetious anymore....dang

S :)
