Anybody in town need a Koyo 1918 radiator?

Online price is about $299. There's a local guy that will bring them to his store for $202 after a little negotiation (and it's a Koyo Authorized dealer). Takes about 3-5 business days.

For those keeping track, CarID is cheaper but they ship a TYC Genera (may or may not be a Koyo - just like the Amazon specials).

Thoughts? Going to make a deal in the next couple days so it'll be here by next weekend.

So school me so I don't have to search the archives...is this an upgrade to stock or acceptable cheaper replacement? Seems most dork out on OEM parts but I haven't priced or researched any radiators. Mitch and I have had his out (original w/ 126K) and looked good but probably ought to have a plan to act on when it's time based on what I've read.

@milemarker60 You can roll the dice with ordering one off Amazon for about $160. The description on Amazon is for the TYC brand but most everyone that ordered this has received a KOYO 1918 radiator in the TYC box. Lately most Mud members have noted that TYC seems to be dropping their own more frequently than the KOYO in the box. Based upon pictures the TYC is an inferior quality.

I have put a lot of different radiators in a lot of different vehicles. I can tell you the quality of the OEM far exceeds any Koyo, CSF or other alternative. You can tell the moment you unbox it. I know the cost at about $360 from Olathe Toyota can be a bit hard to swallow at first. But it is really quality.

I believe we have about half a dozen local members that went the cheap Amazon/Ebay route for around $160 and received the KOYO 1918 version including myself. It is a 2 row Aluminum with plastic tank that seems identical to the OEM that came out of at least 3 local rigs. Based on other Mud threads, the TYC is made in China, KOYO made in Indonesia, OEM is assumed made in Japan.

Quite a few discussions whether KOYO is supplier for OEM but since Toyota usually requires suppliers to ID many parts with Toyota logo vs their own logo hard to prove. For instance the super chargers available through TRD/Toyota parts was made by Magnuson but the only logo on 2f's Boost and the other one he had is Toyota. The SC's we just bought in the recent group buy are marked with a Magnuson logo.

IMHO - Based upon the design of the radiator I could see no significant advantage in cooling capacity of the OEM vs KOYO. Regarding quality, the KOYO seems to be equivalent to OEM, the TYC definitely has issues with mounting holes from what I read. As far as longevity we shall see. However, a failed radiator is rarely catastrophic like the PHH since you usually have ample warning signs from seepage. For the price from Amazon you can grab 2 radiators vs 1 OEM but, there is a gamble for if you actually get the KOYO version. The deal @rockstate45 is working on will guarantee a KOYO but at a little bit steeper price.

These guys pretty much hit the nail on the head here! I was going to do it through CarID but they won't ship through Koyo, instead shipping from TYC. While the reps there think it's a guaranteed Koyo product, it's not. Koyo is a supplier for TYC but not the only one.

At $173 (after shipping and tax), it's not worth it for me to wait until April 25th for it to ship for the possibility of getting the wrong radiator. These guys will do it for $202 plus tax (he said about $216 after) and it is a guaranteed Koyo.

As far as the Koyo vs OEM, it is roughly half the price and I'd imagine would last long enough, even if not as long as the OEM radiator.
