On a previous thread, a few people asked me to comment on how the job went....so, here you go!

Overall, I would say that doing a knuckle rebuild is more intimidating then it is hard, for the first timers anyways....this job is not difficult. This was the first time I did this job, I went into it with what knowledge I gained from this board and reading through manuals. If you have basic knowledge of packing bearings, pulling seals, pressing seals....you can handle this job.

Basically, the disassembly is pretty straight forward, took the least amount of time. Just follow the manual, you'll be good to go.

The most amount of time was consumed between disassembly and assembly. During this time I cleaned all the components, POR15'd the knuckles, Put new rotors on the hubs, again follow the manual....straight forward.

**Note- This job is messy...wait,very :censor: messy! Luckily for me, we have a solvent tank at work, this aided in cleaning the components big time. For newbies, it's a good idea to have some kind of solvent to break down the old grease, something besides gasoline perferably.

**Note- The hardest part for me during this stage was, for one, on the drivers side; the back side of the hub was so mangled and beaten on by someone it made getting the new seal on a PITA!. Of course this is dependent on your vehicle, the passenger side was a piece of cake! Secondly, I couldn't figure out for the life of me how to get the rotors off the hub, (thanks again for the fast info from the guys on this thread). This of course is not necessary for a knuckle rebuild, it's just mine were shot.

Lastly, after every thing is clean...put all back together. This is straight forward....follow the manual. One thing to remember on assembly is to clean, clean, and clean again all the compnents before assembly. You want to make sure and get all the old grease and solvent off, before applying new.

Again this job was not hard...just messy and time consuming. I started on Friday night about 4 p.m. and finished Saturday around 10 p.m. Thanks again for all the knowledge on this board, and for the guys that asked....don't wait, get out there and do it, expand the mind. Turn up the tunes and turn two! and just think about the money your saving.

Hey Mike S,
Thanks for the write up, and congrats on your re build!!! Sounds like it didnt take all that long for you. One day down time isnt bad.
Where did you get your kit from?

Chicago

I got the kit from cruiser outfitters. Yeah, one day isn't bad....although, it was a long day.
