A Notice of Intent (NOI) to prepare an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) to analyze the impacts of Travel Management by the Klamath National Forest was published in the Federal Register on October 7, 2008. This action begins a 30-day comment period for the Klamath proposed action to designate roads, trails and areas for motorized use, prohibit cross country travel, and make needed changes to the forest transportation system. This action is taken to conform to the 2005 national Travel Management Rule.

The comments received before November 6, 2008 will be most helpful.
Issues may be identified from your comments that will help us to develop
alternatives and/or evaluate effects in the Draft EIS (DEIS) which is
expected to be complete in May 2009. Another 45-day comment period will
follow the release of the DEIS.

The Forest urges the public to review the NOI and associated maps and
tables at the following website before commenting:
Klamath National Forest - Projects. Copies of the
NOI will be provided upon request. Maps and tables describing the
proposed action are also available for viewing at U. S. Forest Services
offices in Yreka, Happy Camp, Macdoel, Fort Jones and Orleans.
