kenmore fridge issues

This is a Side by side kenmore fridge that is only about 9 years old.

Mon morning, big puddle on the floor. neither side of the fridge was working. The puddle was from the Ice machine melting.

Both the fan inside the fridge and the fan next to the compressor were working. I cleaned the hair and lint off of the "radiator". And the fridge seemed to work fine.

This morning, the ice had all melted again. Again, fans seem to be working just fine.

The compressor (big black can) was warm to the touch, so I'd think that it was functioning. (plud I think I can hear it kick on and off).

Why would the fridge melt down?

auto defrost failing???


Using this flow chart, it looks like I need a new Fridge.. But I am hoping that it may be something else that is easier..

We had a motherboard go out on ours that did the same thing as you are desribing here.

Check the defrost timing circuit. Your service manual/online info should give description how to assure that it's set right/working correctly.

On mine, when I see water dripping into fridge section from freezer above, it means that the drip pan has frozen over, and needs to be cleared of ice. Sometimes the thaw cycle gets behind and needs a little help with some hot water in a squeeze bottle. HTH
